Ukraine's Tina Karol Knows First-Hand the Joy and Unity of Eurovision

In 2006, Ukrainian singer Tina Karol took part in Eurovision as an unknown performer, finishing seventh with her song 'Show Me Your Love'. Fast-forward 17 years, and Karol is now one of Ukraine's most beloved artists, having released nine albums, mentored on The Voice Ukraine, judged the country's Eurovision selection process, and even been honored by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for her contribution to Ukrainian culture.

'When the people have a moment of joy, these are unbelievable feelings,' she says. Despite the challenges, Karol remained optimistic about the event's ability to unite nations. 'This is how the whole nation, in one second, feels joy,' she says. And when asked if she thought Ukraine should have hosted this year's contest, her response was resolute: 'Ukraine should have hosted this year's contest. When the people have a moment of joy, these are unbelievable feelings.'

For Karol, the experience served as a reminder of the importance of unity and the power of music to bring people together in times of crisis. As she reflects on the event, she is struck by the sense of community that emerged in the face of adversity. 'That moment was historical because the saddest day came to Ukraine,' she says.
